Are you looking to discover a journey that is different, wild, and truly authentic? The Tsum Valley Trek is not just a hike in the usual sense of the word; it is an exploration into a world of pristine nature, ancient culture, and profound spirituality. This trek takes you into a delightful hidden valley, known to the locals as a sacred paradise, nestled in the northwestern part of the Gorkha district within the magnificent Manaslu Region. It is a journey for those who seek to understand a life lived in harmony with nature, far from the pull of material acquisition.
The Tsum Valley, once recognized by the Buddhist saint Padmasambhava as "Beyul Kyimolung," or a hidden valley of happiness, was a restricted area, closed off to the outside world until recently. This isolation has allowed its indigenous inhabitants, the Tsumbas, to preserve their unique culture and way of life. They have embraced an ancient form of Tibetan Buddhism and maintain a deep respect for all living things, refusing to kill or sacrifice animals. Their unique language, spiritual beliefs, and traditional customs distinctly separate them and their valley from the rest of the world.
Your journey on this 13-day itinerary begins with an adventurous local bus or jeep ride to the trailhead. The first part of your trek will take you along the trail that circles the mighty Manaslu (8,163m), the eighth-tallest mountain on the planet. After traversing the lower Budhi Gandaki Valley, you will finally make your way into the enchanting Tsum Valley itself, which extends all the way to the Tibetan border.
Here, you will move through a rugged alpine landscape outlined by the Siyar and Serpu Khola rivers, meeting the ethnic communities of Chumling, Chekampar, and Nile. You will walk on remarkable, nowhere-else-to-be-found trails that are embellished with uniquely carved chortens and long Mani walls. The path will lead you past astounding monasteries like Rachen Gompa before you set your sights on Mu Gompa, the main attraction of the Tsum Valley trek.
Set against the picturesque frame of the Ganesh Himal and Shringi Himal ranges, this sacred site at 3,700 meters is not only a place of deep spiritual significance but also an astounding spot to view the glistening white mountains that surround you. After exploring the valley's highlights, you will take a circular route back, rejoining the main trail to travel back to Kathmandu, your heart and mind filled with unforgettable memories.
With its relatively gentle elevation gain, stunning sights, and the absence of technical hurdles, the Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek is an inviting endeavor for everyone. It is a remarkable journey that is destined to stay in your memory for a long, long time.
Follow our carefully crafted 13-day journey through Tsum Valley, designed for cultural immersion, comfort, and unforgettable experiences.

We hope you have a beautiful morning and a delightful breakfast. Our guide will be at your hotel in the morning to gather everyone and provide a briefing about your Tsum Valley trek itinerary. The rest of the day is free to take in the sights of the capital and check your equipment. If anything is lacking, our guide will help you get all the necessary items at a very affordable cost. Don't miss out on seeing the grandeur of Swayambhunath, the stupa of Boudhanath, and the temple of Pashupatinath.
The early morning will see us getting on our bus to exit Kathmandu. Slowly driving along the Trishuli Highway, we will approach the green surroundings of Dhading. As we journey toward Arughat Market, the Himalayan mountain ranges of Manaslu and Ganesh Himal will be fascinating to watch. After a small refreshment here, we will resume our road travel and pass through several small hamlets before reaching Soti Khola. The rich jungle will further guide us toward Machha Khola, where we will settle in for the night.
Today marks the beginning of our wonderful hike. We will have to climb a little through the misty and cold forest of rhododendron and pine to reach Khorla Besi. We will soon be at Tatopani, where we can admire its naturally formed hot spring. Soon, we will be in front of Dobhan Khola where a suspension bridge will lead us across the river. We will gently climb through Thulo Dhunga to finally arrive at the picturesque town of Jagat. This small town is the heart of the region, with the office of the Manaslu Conservation Area Project.
The day dawns in Jagat with the beautiful outline of Manaslu rising up to the sky. From Jagat, we will walk into the natural park, continuing along the riverbank through the impressive gorges of the Budhi Gandaki. Soon the proud villages of Salleri and Sridibas will be reached. Now, gradually climbing through the verdant hills amidst a landscape of mysterious beauty, we will soon find ourselves at Philim. We are marching inside the lower Tsum Valley now, a region of unique nature. The cool forest trail will take us to Lokpa, beautifully isolated between the massive waves of the Budhi Gandaki and the Siyar Khola.
After Lokpa, our route becomes very peaceful as we continue through nature along the southern trail of the Siyar Khola. Our pathway calmly rises up towards the small ridge known as Sardi Danda. A gradual trek downhill will take us to the merciful Lungwa Khola. Now, an ever-rising steep trail will challenge us as we march forward to reach Gumlung. An old hanging bridge will be ready to walk us over the Siyar Khola before we reach the sacred soil of Chumling. The slope of this village has housed numerous attractive monasteries such as Mani Dhungyur and Panago Gompa.
Again, the calm waters of the Siyar Khola will be our guidance. After we slowly make our way up, we will head west and walk upward to Dumje Village. Here, we will come across a pathway that splits into two: one leading to the base camp of Ganesh and the other leading to our goal, Chekampar. Next, another beautiful river named Serpu Khola will greet us. The charmingly crafted stone-paved trail will take us from here to Chekampar, where a stunningly carved entrance gate greets us. This sacred village has been able to maintain its distance from the outside world, thus preserving its ancient customs.
After we leave Chekampar, we will walk through a maze of a series of Mani Walls that are built from slate slabs. Our route has taken us inside the Lama Gaon where we will once more cross a solid-built steel bridge. The pathway hereafter will take us to the beautiful Rachen Gompa, the only all-female nunnery in the region. Along the shore of the Siyar Khola, we will navigate through a series of small villages. We will also come across the meditation cave of Milarepa known as Piren Phu before we finally enter the legendary hamlet of Nile.
From Nile, we will engage in an upward trek towards the historical icon of Mu Gompa. This holiest monastery is steeped deep in legends. Pushing our legs for approximately 3 to 4 hours of a hard climb, we will finally be at this iconic location. We will grab every opportunity to immerse ourselves in the profound knowledge of the monks living here. We will also spend some time watching the sun slowly hiding behind the enormous snowy curtains of Ganesh, Himalchuli, and Baudha. We will now set forth to travel back to the modest shelter of Chumling village.
Leaving behind the idyllic Chumling, we will prepare to journey back to Philim, traversing the quaint Lokpa hamlet. The Budhi Gandaki River seems delightful to welcome us back and will once again lead us along the route amidst the stunning nature. A gorgeous waterfall named Samba is admirable to watch for a moment. Finally, we are again at Philim, and the comforting lowland oxygen-rich air breezing through the Ganesh Peak is welcoming.
Waving goodbye to Philim, we will follow the calm forest trail that will usher us towards Dobhan Khola. The familiar pleasant-looking suspended bridge will lead us to the route that will redirect us toward Jagat and Tatopani. Khorla Besi is not that far, after which we will slowly walk down to Labu Besi. Now, walking beside the evergreen hills of Nepal, we will reach Sotikhola, which will ultimately direct us to Machha Khola. Here, we will end our trek and prepare to embark on a long road trip towards Kathmandu.
An early morning bus will take us back to Kathmandu. Along the way, we are delighted to meet the charming green villages of Arughat Bazaar once again. Our route will follow the long picturesque Prithvi Highway, which will lead us through Trishuli, Thankot, and Kalanki to Kathmandu. We will now accompany you to your capital's accommodation. In the evening, the entire supporting team will come together to celebrate the success of our Tsum Valley trek.
After breakfast, you can head out to take one final tour of Kathmandu city. We will now accompany you to TIA and offer you our warmest regards as you depart for your homeland voyage.

The round trip covers approximately 130 km (about 80 miles) over 12-14 days. This means you'll be walking for 5 to 7 hours on most days.
The trail is often uneven, rocky, and involves steep ascents and descents. You can expect daily elevation gains of less than 1000m.
The combination of physical exertion, basic living conditions, and being away from home can be mentally taxing. A positive and resilient mindset is crucial.

A 13-day itinerary offers a culturally rich Himalayan experience with manageable elevations, fewer crowds, and immersive monastery visits. Here's why it stands out:
The pacing allows for a gradual ascent with appropriate rest days, significantly reducing the risk of altitude-related issues and keeping the journey enjoyable.
This timeframe allows for a comfortable pace with meaningful cultural stops such as Rachen Gompa, Mu Gompa, and the sacred sites around Chekampar and Nile.
Encounters with Tsumba culture, ancient monasteries, and sacred caves offer a rare glimpse into a preserved Tibetan Buddhist way of life.
The reasonable daily walking duration of 4 to 6 hours and the inclusion of rest days make a 14-day trek accessible to hikers of varying experience and fitness levels, including families and older adults.
Successfully completing the Tsum Valley trek will build your confidence and prepare you for more demanding high-altitude adventures in Nepal, such as climbing peaks like Island Peak, Mera Peak, or Lobuche Peak.

Higher up, the landscape opens into alpine meadows and rocky slopes, with wide views of Ganesh Himal, Shringi Himal, and Baudha Himal.

Electricity is available in the villages, often supplemented by solar power. You can charge your electronic devices, though there is usually a small fee for this service.
Your tour package will typically include all necessary transportation:
As you'll be trekking to elevations above 5,000 meters, it's crucial to be aware of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).
The primary symptoms of AMS include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping. These symptoms usually subside within 12 to 24 hours.
If they persist, the only cure is to descend to a lower altitude.
While AMS cannot be 100% prevented, the risk can be significantly reduced by:
