You will travel from the ancient squares and sacred temples of the Kathmandu Valley to the lush, wild jungles of Chitwan, and from the fertile, spiritual plains of Lumbini to the majestic Himalayan beauty of Pokhara.
But what makes this a truly "classic" journey is the inclusion of the charming and often-overlooked hillside jewels of Bandipur and Tansen, along with a brief, spectacular detour to the wish-fulfilling Manakamana temple. The first phase of your tour will allow you to discover the historic splendor of Kathmandu, a city that has cultivated a unique and vibrant culture over its two-thousand-year history. You will explore the richness of all three ancient royal cities of the valley—Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur—visiting their magnificent Durbar Squares and the sacred UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, and Boudhanath.
From the cultural heart of the nation, our tour will transport you to a whimsical, natural world of one-horned rhinos, crocodiles, and elephants in Chitwan National Park. Here, you will engage in thrilling adventures, from peaceful canoe rides and exciting jeep safaris to immersing yourself in the captivating heritage of the local Tharu tribe. The journey then takes you to the sacred site of Lumbini, the place where Lord Buddha was born. As you wander from the Maya Devi temple to the Ashoka Pillar and the international monasteries, you will feel the profound peace and spiritual energy of this revered land.
Next, your journey ascends back into the hills, to the charming town of Tansen, home to the timeless Rani Mahal, a beautiful palace that stands as a testament to eternal love. The adventure then continues to the paradise city of Pokhara, where you will witness an unforgettable sunrise from Sarangkot, with the sky-touching peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges spread out before you. As your journey concludes, the medieval charm of Bandipur will welcome you, transporting you back to an era of Newari tranquility, before a final, spectacular cable car ride to the Manakamana Temple. Your 12-day Nepal Classic Tour is a comprehensive journey that beautifully intertwines the country's pristine nature, rich history, captivating legends, and profound spirituality. From the ancient squares and sacred temples of the Kathmandu Valley to the lush jungles of Chitwan, the spiritual plains of Lumbini, the charming hill stations of Tansen and Bandipur, and the majestic Himalayan beauty of Pokhara. Greetings from the unconventional metropolis of Kathmandu! After you clear customs, our cordial representative will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel. Take time to get comfortable, then take a short walk around the area to discover the rich structure and busy streets, and see the local life of the Nepalese people.
Enjoy your first morning breakfast in the Himalayan capital. After your meal, our tour guide will meet you for a short briefing about the days ahead. Then, we will set out on our capital excursion. First, we will visit Pashupatinath, the holiest Hindu shrine. Then we will proceed to Boudhanath, a massive mandala that is the heart of Tibetan Buddhism. The next Heritage Site on our list is Swayambhunath Temple (the Monkey Temple), perched on a hilltop with a phenomenal view of the entire valley. Finally, we will progress towards the Kathmandu Durbar Square, which embodies the cultural and religious life of the locals.
Today, we will visit two additional UNESCO-listed Heritage sites: the elegant Patan Durbar Square and the architectural wonder of Bhaktapur, often known as the "Open Museum of Nepal." First, we will explore the Palace Square of Patan, located in the center of Lalitpur city. The noteworthy and still-existing marvels are the Krishna Temple and the Hiranya Varna Golden Temple. Then, let's travel to Bhadgaon—now Bhaktapur. The palace of fifty-five windows, Nyatapola Temple, and many other artistic creations are the jewels of this square.
One of the impressive days of our Nepal Classic Tour has arrived. We will be leaving Kathmandu early in the morning to arrive at the oldest national park of Nepal—Chitwan National Park. We will travel along the asphalted Prithvi Highway that hugs the banks of the Trishuli River. The Terai plains and jungles will start to appear, suggesting we are in Chitwan. The huge, naturally protected land of Chitwan was founded in 1973 and is one of the last refuges of the one-horned rhinoceros and the royal Bengal tiger.
Today is going to be a full, action-packed day of jungle activities. After breakfast, we will set off for an exciting elephant or jeep safari through the thick underbrush of the park. This adventure will last around 1.5 to 2 hours, giving you the chance to observe diverse wildlife. After our safari, we will head back for lunch, then continue our adventure with a canoe ride on the Rapti River, observing various species of aquatic plants and animals. We will then visit a little elephant breeding center before ending our day by attending a cultural program—the Tharu Stick Dance.
We will set off today to visit the original birthplace of Buddha—the sacred Lumbini, located near the Indian border. Our private 4x4 wheel will take us along the broad Terai Highway. After checking into our hotel, we will set out to discover the key monuments. The most vital one is the Maya Devi Temple, where Buddha was said to be born. Next is the holy pond of Pushkarini. Then there are the Ashoka Pillars, which confirm that Lumbini is the place where Buddha was born. There are also several international and national Buddhist monasteries worth exploring.
Today, we will continue our journey through southern Nepal and head further west to the Palpa region and its main town, Tansen. Traversing the Terai plains, the road slowly passes to the hills and midlands of the Mahabharat range. After lunch, we will go out to explore this little old town. One of the main highlights is the Tansen Durbar. Then we will go to the banks of the Kali Gandaki River, where the Rani Mahal is located, often called the Nepalese Taj Mahal. As the day draws to a close, we can make our way north of Tansen and climb the 1,600m Srinagar Danda for a perfect sunset view.
After our breakfast, we will leave Tansen and head towards Pokhara. This scenic journey will take around four hours and displays the breathtaking valleys of central Nepal. Our travel will start on a bumpy dirt road that winds through the hills and mountains, eventually merging onto a long, wide paved road from Syangja that will carry us smoothly toward Pokhara. The second most popular and largest city of Nepal, positioned along the beautiful bank of Phewa Lake, attracts travelers with its scenic landscapes. After arrival and lunch, we will take a boat ride on the lake to visit the Barahi Temple.
After an early rise, we will climb to the village of Sarangkot to see the sun emerging from the hill, awakening the sleeping giants of Fishtail and the Annapurna range. Then, we have a free day, which you can dedicate to active recreation like paragliding or a zip-line ride. Or, you can just get on with a light excursion of the city, which boasts several sites worth your time. The Peace Pagoda, the giant statue of Shiva at Pumdikot, and the mesmerizing Devi's Falls are a few of the must-see attractions.
Enjoy a peaceful breakfast in the majestic surroundings of Pokhara's mountains and lakes. Then, we will prepare to depart for Bandipur. The long, smooth stretch of the Prithvi Highway will lead us to Dumre, where the road ascends, guiding us steeply up to the beautiful, time-suspended Newari town. Its central paved pedestrian street overlooks traditional Newari-style buildings. Later in the day, after lunch, we can visit the small Khadga Devi temple, and to enjoy the sunset, we can go up to the Thani Mai temple, which is about a half-hour's walk from the town center.
From Bandipur, we will again take on the Prithvi Highway towards Kathmandu. After a few kilometers, we will take a crossroad and turn to Kurintar town. The cable car station located here will transport us to Manakamana Temple via a 1.3 km cable ride. The temple is one of the most visited Hindu sanctuaries in Nepal because it is considered a place where wishes come true. We will spend some time at the temple and then descend back to continue our journey to Kathmandu. In the evening, let's gather for a wonderful Nepali farewell meal.
